Enabling FICAM Within Government Agencies

In a recent memorandum, Federal CIO Steven VanRoekel outlined new requirements for agencies with public-facing websites to accept externally issued identity credentials. What does this mandate mean from a security and implementation perspective? Pamela Dingle will discuss an actual project undertaken by the General Services Administration to enable one of their own websites to support protocols that have been profiled by the Federal Identity Credential and Access Management (FICAM) program. FICAM profiles enable users from one agency to securely visit sites from another agency with high levels of assurance, and also enable citizens using common commercial credentials to visit agency websites with low levels of assurance. Pamela will talk about details of the implementation, including which components were easy and which were more challenging. In addition, she will discuss the final accomplishments and what this means for the future of identity management.
