Call for Participation: OMG/GTRA Sustainability Initiative

OMG’s Sustainability Special Interest Group and the Government Technology Research Alliance (GTRA) have been working with several other organizations to address the above mentioned challenges by developing a technology and domain agnostic Sustainability Assessment Model (SAM). SAM will provide an advanced vocabulary, and a data model to help organizations define, assess, monitor and report on their green and sustainability initiatives.

GTRA Goes Green Providing Virtual LIVE Broadcasting At Government Council Meeting

GTRA announced today that their widely attended semi-annual executive government Council Symposium will be broadcast live December 7-9 in Hershey, PA. This new program enhancement will provide cost-effective involvement for senior-level government executives who otherwise would not be able to participate in the critical discussions with their peers.

Telework Exchange Fall Town Hall Meeting

Annual Rachel Carson Lecture: Videophilia and Our Changing Relationship with Nature

Dr. Patricia Zaradic will address the issues and implications related to electronic media replacing outdoor activities during the 3rd annual Rachel Carson lecture. This event is hosted by the Department of the Interior Cultural Resources Division, which includes the Educational Partnerships Program, Interior Library, and Interior Museum. The lecture is free and open to the public.

OSD Saves Over $800K Annually Through Virtualization

The Office of the Secretary of Defense Office of the CIO avoided nearly $6 million in server acquisition costs and will have saved over $800,000 annually in connection fees due to it’s virtualization efforts, according to Emmett Webster, Director, Governance & Information Assurance, OCIO, Department of Defense. With tightening budgets and mandates requiring agencies to “go green”, IT executives under pressure to reevaluate their infrastructure and IT spending to meet new cultural and legislative realities gathered at the GTRA Symposium to discuss Virtualization.

Telework to Relieve D.C. Commuters’ Aches During Inauguration

Telework Exchange, a public-private partnership focused on expanding telework, today calls for Washington, D.C. area organizations and employees to telework during the 2009 Presidential Inauguration. With up to 4 million people expected in the Washington, D.C. region for the inaugural events, local commuters can expect gridlocked roadways and transit systems. As the area prepares for the surge in traffic, organizations must look for ways to maintain business operations. Telework is a readily-available remedy to the Washington area’s aches.
