The IJIS Institute is a nonprofit organization dedicated to joining forces with its member companies to unite the private and public sectors to improve mission-critical information sharing across all levels of the justice, public safety, and homeland security communities.

Facilitation and support of programs affecting these sectors is central to the IJIS Institute mission. These programs, and related projects, address the major issues facing the nation—the IJIS Institute plays a key role in enabling relevant standards and technologies required to advance program goals.

The IJIS Institute:

• Offers technology assistance to state and local jurisdictions to assist with the planning and implementation of information sharing projects in the justice, public safety, and homeland security domains. The IJIS Institute leverages the expertise and experience of private sector information technology firms and provides objective and cost-effective technology recommendations and solutions to decision makers and project stakeholders.
• Provides training essential to the successful implementation of information sharing projects in the justice, public safety, and homeland security communities. Training services are provided by the IJIS Institute through an innovative delivery approach that engages the resources and expertise of industry. By participating in this service area, industry is afforded the unique opportunity to work with jurisdictions seeking to develop National Information Exchange Model (NIEM) information sharing capabilities.
• Provides resources to help users research and resolve answers to technical questions regarding the content, principles, and best practices for using the Global Justice XML Data Model (GJXDM) and the National Information Exchange Model (NIEM) including: the National Information Sharing Standards (NISS) Help Desk, an Online Knowledge Base, and the IEPD Clearinghouse.
• Provides and appoints industry experts to panels, committees, work groups, task forces, and other issue-based initiatives of national significance. IJIS Institute National Scope industry advisors act as the eyes, ears, and voice of private industry.
• Hosts two Industry Briefings every year to bring together industry solution provider members, affiliates, alliance partners, potential members, government leaders and practitioners to talk about critical issues in information sharing.
